No surprises at UN sanctions against Iran

Who really pulls the strings at the United Nations?

There were no surprises when the UN led by America and its allies voted for tougher sanctions against Iran yesterday despite the fact that a deal was reached on May 17, between Iran,  Turkey and Brazil on a nuclear fuel swap. America and its allies are hell bent on either military action against Iran or regime change through sanctions.

When the UN voted for tougher sanctions against Iran it came as no surprise to those who are aware of the west’s motives. (Read Iran rightfully calls for America to be suspended from IAEA)

This is not about Iran being a threat to world stability, it is about Iran being a threat to America’s interests in the Middle East.

Iran has the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes but what America and its allies fear is that Iran will have the capability to defend itself and protect its resources.

Just like in the run up to the invasion of Iraq the media has parroted the same script once more in regards to Iran. Exaggerations of the alleged Iran threat to the world has been steadily increasing in the western media preparing the public for an eventual war.

Just like Iraq there is no evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, this came from Mohamed ElBaradei, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief in 2009, and America was far from pleased with his reports. Coincidentally, ElBaradei was replaced at the end of last year with Yukiya Amano, the new chief who is far more compliant to America’s interests. (Finningham: Global Research: 2010)

America and its allies never intended to reach a deal with Iran or even compromise as the May 17, Iran, Turkey and Brazil deal demonstrates. Not only did this deal adhere to what the Obama administration claimed they wanted but it was a unique opportunity to diffuse tensions, but once again America and its allies revealed themselves to be the enemies of peace.

The deal on May 17, in which Iran, Turkey and Brazil discussed meant that Iran would send over half of its low-enriched uranium stock to Turkey in exchange for a supply of enriched uranium from France and Russia to be used for radioisotope cancer treatments, which would be far below the levels needed to create a nuclear weapon. This was to be overseen by the IAEA. Does this sound like a country which is a threat to the world? Clearly not, but despite this deal which both the Turkish Prime Minister and Brazilian president referred to as a chance to diffuse tensions between the west and Iran, America and its allies rejected it.

This was a deal in which American president Barack Obama claimed he would honour in a letter to Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. In this letter Obama said, “For us, Iran’s agreement to transfer 1,200 kg of Iran’s low enriched uranium (LEU) out of the country would build confidence and reduce regional tensions by substantially reducing Iran’s LEU stockpile. I want to underscore that this element is of fundamental importance for the United States. For Iran, it would receive the nuclear fuel requested to ensure continued operation of the TRR to produce needed medical isotopes and, by using its own material, Iran would begin to demonstrate peaceful nuclear intent.” (Source: Huffington Post)

Why did Obama lie? The only explanation at this time is that he never expected a deal to be agreed to and once a deal was made it placed his government in an awkward position as they never wanted diplomacy to work in the first place.

Lula condemned the UN for implementing tougher sanctions against Iran when there was clearly an opportunity to diffuse the situation. Brazil and Turkey had both voted against a new round of sanctions, however he said that America, Britain and France had applied pressure for tougher sanctions against Iran.

America and its allies are clearly looking for military action against Iran and tougher sanctions serves as a useful terrorist tactic whereby the Iranian people are made to suffer until they overthrow their own government, which is when America and its allies can install their own puppet in power just as they have done in the past.

It is very difficult to write about events such as this because it demonstrates how powerless many countries must feel in comparison to the global heavyweights.

The international bodies set-up to ensure equality in the world are thoroughly corrupt and under influence by America and its allies. It is very surprising at all that the non-European world actually attend UN meetings, what is the point really?

The threat to world peace comes from the very European powers who since the era of European world conquest have attempted to maintain their control of the world’s resources by war, terrorism and crippling sanctions.
